The lights on its back will glow blue when it's listening, and it will make a chiming noise. The Vector charges on an included base station with two contacts that meet with the bottom of the robot, between its tank treads. It can automatically seek out its base station to charge when its battery gets low, or be told to "go home" and it will settle back on the contacts. The base station has an attached cable that terminates in a USB connector.
Lots of potential for added features, including full Alexa capabilities. Vector is clever and rather instinctive, though, and will make use of its surroundings when you aren't asking it to do things. This is all good fun, as long as you don't mind the fact that it will occasionally randomly start up and move about, scaring the crap out of you. This is done through the app, with the idea being that you don't actually have to use the app much once you have set Vector up. When I met up with Anki earlier in the year to talk to them about Vector, a big onus was put on the processing power Vector has.

But it's weak on answering questions and lacks a real purpose, other than distraction. That autonomous sense of life is really important to making Vector feel like a pet rather than a toy. You don't pull him out for 10 minutes when you feel like playing with him – he's just there. And that should go a long way towards keeping him from being banished to the back of the cupboard with some of the other little robots we've tried.
But before you see all these, you have to set up Vector. I’m not a programmer, but I should have mentioned that. I don’t think the SDK is as easy to use as the object programming of the Cozmo.
Performance
Curiously, no USB wall adapter is included for the cable, which seems like an odd omission for a $250 robot. If you run out of things to do with Vector, then retreat to the app and you will get prompted with things to do. Vector was meant to be the always-on robot "pet" that would be free from an app or a phone. Yet, I found myself going back to the app time and time again to make sure I was getting the most out of the robot.
Download the Vector app for Android or iOS and put the robot in its base station for about two hours to reach a full charge. Follow the instructions in the app to make a free Anki account, turn the Vector on, pair it with your phone over Bluetooth, and connect it to your Wi-Fi network. That said, the robots still work, although they won’t do anything new from here on out. Once setup has been done on either an iOS or Android device, Vector only needs a WiFi connection to work. He usually parks himself in his charger until fully charged.

He can maneuver around almost anything and will not drive himself off a table or counter—except when he does. Even though he’s equipped with four drop sensors that can detect a table edge, Vector went right off our kitchen counter. The only thing that prevented him from hitting a hard, tile floor was our dog’s soft bed. Vector seems to be easily confused by certain table edges and will not stop in time before going off the edge. This has taught me not to let Vector wander around unsupervised. If you pick Vector up and shake it, it’ll get frustrated.

Vector can recognize you and will say your name with a wiggle of excitement from time to time, and this is usually enough to tug anyone’s heartstrings. He can perform a variety of tricks using this, to keep you entertained, and he even enjoys playing with his cube alone too. Anki hopes to achieve this by making Vector autonomous.
We have never played with him enough to completely exhaust the game – this is definitely a toy with which you can work a little and then let it do its thing. When turned on, the vector has similar functions and expressions for Cozmo. Pixar Body, the Vector team was controlled by someone who worked in DreamWorks. The inclusion of PowerWorks in these animators shows how important it is for the Vector to look like a real family member, important to Anki. Anki Vector, Cosmo’s larger brother, the latest release of robots from Anki.
You can connect it to your smart home through wi fi and say hey Vector to get it to perform tasks and answer questions. Its artificial intelligence learns fast and you can monitor its progress on the Vector app. It’s one of the best smart home devices and is fun to play with. The Anki Vector is a personable, useful little robot with a lot of potential.
Having Vector around for a number of weeks in our house certainly extended the appeal of the robot. At first, we enjoyed playing with it and asking it questions but then things shifted after the first week. We managed to get around 45 minutes of play out of the thing, then had to charge it for around 30 minutes to get it fully fit again. Vector will go to its charger if you tell it to go to sleep, though, so it's quite a seamless experience. We never played with it enough for it to completely run out of steam - this is definitely a toy to interact with for a little while then let it do its own thing.

So, "Hey Vector, my name is Marc" in this instance and it will then spend a little time scanning your face until its eyes change to a look of recognition. It's all rather lovely and the robot can memorize a number of faces. You can play with it, too; stroking it, fist-bumping it and calling its name all evoke great reactions. The magic of Vector is not what he can do, but what he may do in the future—even accounting for Alexa. Vector has taken the Cozmo concept in another direction—one that promises to raise the bar in a world of A.I. Vector comes with a 4-way microphone that helps detect your location when you speak.
Overdrive, its push into the racing-set space, was a fun hybrid of Scalextric-style controls and app gaming. While its robot companion Cozmo hit the top of the toy charts, thanks to its charm. The Vector Anki is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. It comes in a stylish black color with gold accents and has a tough, tank-like appearance.
